On this day 52 years ago The plane carrying the Marshall Football team crashed. 71 parished on thar day.
57 years ago today the US begins combat operations in Vietnam. The men of 3rd BDE, 1st CAV Division sent into IA Drang valley on very bad intelligence. LTC Hal Moore led 1st Battalion 7th Cavalry to Lz Xray and LTC Mcade led 2nd Battalion to LZ Albany. They landed in a hornets nest. Lost over 250 men and were pinned down for over three days. NVA lost over 2500 and possibly more. First time US introduced helicopters to land men for an assault into battle and first time B-52s used in a tactical role to support ground troops (this platform was designed to drop nuclear bombs).
Hal Moore retired as a LTG (3 star general) and passed away in 2017. He is buried at the home of the Infantry at Fort Benning, GA with the 79 men who were lost under his command in Vietnam. We honor their sacrifice!

CPT Joel Cahill was the most humble officer I have ever met. People of all ranks gravited towards him. He was a leader and loved by his Soldiers. He was Killed in action on 06 November 2005 leading his men in Baquapa province. He left behind a wife and two young daughters. CPT Cahill was involved in the joint hostage rescue of Jessica Lynch in 2003. We honor his service and his sacrifice!
