YHC reminisced about his love for basketball. Grew up playing the game. Even coached a German U-16 team while stationed overseas.
Tha Thang:
YHC scouted the basketball goals over at the elementary school near the AO. One rim was non-existent but there was a serviceable one on the other goal. But first we had to mosey…with three Women’s basketballs and one weighted training basketball.
During the mosey we stopped at the middle school entrance to grab some curb and do dips IC. Then Diamond Merks IC. Continued the mosey down pine barren road to the entrance to the elementary school bus loop. Footing was sketchy so thank goodness no one did a Tutti combat roll.
Once at the elementary school there were ten light poles along the bus loop. We started with one burpee at the first light pole. Then moseyed to the second to do two burpees. After it’s three burpees at the third light. You get the idea. All the way around the loop to all ten light poles.
Next, we lined up on the court baseline and ran back and forth doing high knees, butt kicks, etc. Then we defensive shuffled (keeping six low) the entire perimeter of the basketball court. Lastly, we had a free throw competition. Airballs gets the group 15 burpees. Hitting the rim/backboard but not making it gets everybody 10 burpees. Making a free throw gets you a 5 burpee discount. Based on our overall group performance we all deserve to be picked last in any future pick-up basketball games.
Miyagi – 1/2
Spokes – 1/2 (but first attempt was a glorious airball)
Everybody else was an 0-fer. Zero. Zilch. No shots made. They are called free throws for a reason and we failed miserably. Thus, we did a lot of burpees.
Picked up our pride and moseyed back to the flag. Stopped and did a walk sit enroute back.

Book clubs galore.
Prayer requests: Cheddar’s upcoming mission trip and Shank’s seeking permanent housing. Peaceful end to Ukrainians suffering and those unknowingly becoming refugees.
I’ve had the privilege of coaching basketball throughout the years and the positive effects of mentoring youth is immeasurable. Seek ways to coach and mentor and that doesn’t just mean in sports. It can be done in every interaction we have with others.
Like Proverbs 27:17 reminds us “Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.”
