Workouts of Biblical Proportions, Part 3 – 40 and 7

The last of this year’s ‘Workouts of Biblical Proportions’ concluded this morning with a concentration on the numbers 40 and 7.

40 days and nights Moses and Jesus fasted,  40 years in the wilderness represented purification from sin, as did 40 days and nights of rain when the earth was flooded and washed clean in the time of Noah.

7 days represent completeness as in 7 days of the week, 70 times 7 is the number of complete forgiveness (see Matthew 18:22), the book of Numbers has multiple instances of the 7 sacrifices, the book of Daniel and in particular Revelation also use the number 7 to represent totality.

There are other important numbers, 3 and twelve to name a couple, perhaps another workout could be made from those.

Warmup paid special attention to the quadriceps, calves, and hamstrings (dive bombers, Don Quixote’s, quadriceps stretches during the disclaimer)

The workout consisted of a 40 yard dash, with a run backwards to the start line.

Then there was an ab exercise with 40 reps, followed by another 40 yard dash, a run backwards, for a total of 7 repetitions.

Ab exercises:

  • 20 4-count squats
  • 40 second plank
  • 40 Imperial Walkers
  • 40 flutter kicks (20 4-count)
  • 20 four-count Freddie Mercuries
  • 40 jump squats
  • Rest

The Pax mosied a 3/8 mile lap of the parking lot, and the routine was repeated with these exercises:

  • 40 line jumps
  • 40 high-knees
  • 40 LBCs
  • 40 Side Straddle Hops
  • 40 Mountain Climbers
  • 40 American Hammers
  • Rest

This morning’s standouts were Tumbleweed and Betty Crocker with an honerable mention to DQ who made a heroic start but pulled a hamstring or IT band halfway through. Other Pax were Clog, Radar, Armpit, Flat Tire, Backstreet, Dorrie and Epic.

Great workout everyone, and have a blessed weekend.
